Spinning season!
Apr. 12th, 2026 02:32 pmThis morning I set up my spinning nook and started spinning yarn on my wheel. I've been really looking forward to doing this because I find spinning a really soothing and enjoyable way to start the day. My nook is next to some large north-facing windows where sunlight will pour in later in the year when the sun gets lower. I'm a little early for those glorious mornings, but I figured if I'm so looking forward to spinning, why wait longer? The future is so very uncertain.
Here's my spinning setup.

Apr. 11th, 2026 09:21 pm9. It’s National Garlic Month – are you a fan? If so, what’s your favorite garlic recipe?
I love garlic, anything. If I find a recipe with garlic, I'm there. But my favorite is Alfredo and shrimp.
10. Do you often see wild birds in your backyard/garden/nearby open spaces? What are the most common ones you see in your area?
The most common are quail, robins, sparrows, cardinals, pigeons, hawks, hummingbirds, and that's all I can think of.
11. Have you ever flown a kite?
When I was doing it with my kids and grandkids. But now no.
12. What’s your favorite breed of dog?
We had a mixed breed boxer/lab and she was the best dog. She was good sized and weighed about 110 pounds. She wasn't fat, either. I love labs. And I love boxers.
Crunchy questions
Apr. 11th, 2026 09:19 pmDo you follow true mystery books, shows, or podcasts? Are there any cases you're particularly interested in? Any popular cases you have unpopular opinions about?
I don't follow any podcasts. If someone knows of any they would recommend, I would like the links. I like checking out new things. Tell me all about your favorites.

Apr. 11th, 2026 09:18 pm1. What did you learn about marriage and relationships from your parents? Who else have you learned about relationships from?
I learned what not to do by watching how my mother treated my dad so poorly. He was so in love with her and did everything she asked of him. We were all amazed that they never divorced. When we got older, we asked Dad why he stayed. He said, “You don't just give up on a marriage because it's hard. And besides, she’ll always be my best girl. Besides, she gave me my wonderful children.”
We decided that people in love sometimes do odd things. She still could have been nicer to him. They were married for 69 years.

The case of the missing notifications
Apr. 11th, 2026 11:58 pmI keep forgetting to post about this: we've been troubleshooting the "missing notifications" problem for the past few days. (Well, I say "we", really I mean Mark and Robby; I'm just the amanuensis.) It's been one of those annoying loops of "find a logical explanation for what could be causing the problem, fix that thing, observe that the problem gets better for some people but doesn't go away completely, go back to step one and start again", sigh.
Mark is hauling out the heavy debugging ordinance to try to find the root cause. Once he's done building all the extra logging tools he needs, he'll comment to this entry. After he does, if you find a comment that should have gone to your inbox and sent an email notification but didn't, leave him a link to the comment that should have sent the notification, as long as the comment itself was made after Mark says he's collecting them. (I'd wait and post this after he gets the debug code in but I need to go to sleep and he's not sure how long it will take!)
We're sorry about the hassle! Irregular/sporadic issues like this are really hard to troubleshoot because it's impossible to know if they're fixed or if they're just not happening while you're looking. With luck, this will give us enough information to figure out the root cause for real this time.
Just one thing: 12 April 2026
Apr. 11th, 2026 09:49 pmComment with Just One Thing you've accomplished in the last 24 hours or so. It doesn't have to be a hard thing, or even a thing that you think is particularly awesome. Just a thing that you did.
Feel free to share more than one thing if you're feeling particularly accomplished!
Extra credit: find someone in the comments and give them props for what they achieved!
Nothing is too big, too small, too strange or too cryptic. And in case you'd rather do this in private, anonymous comments are screened. I will only unscreen if you ask me to.
