Why I've been absent lately.

In November, I had the 7th CT scan of my chest. I have a ground glass nodule. They make sure it doesn't grow. Well, the one in November went from 1 cm to 2 1/2 cm. When I saw the doctor, he said we could do a biopsy of my nodule. He said he would discuss it with me later and made an appointment for April 8th. I'm on oxygen 24 hours a day. My lungs have been giving me hell lately, so I was anxious for the appointment. When we got there, a new doctor saw me. She went over everything in my chart and said the doctor had omitted the part where we discussed the bronchioscopy to be done. I informed her that he never called me back. She apologized for the doctor dropping the ball. She said she would call me the next day. Well, two hours later she called me. She handed the doctor my chart and asked what happened. He said he dropped the ball. (She was right) He called the doctor right away, who would be doing the procedure. They had to set up a new CT Scan, which I did yesterday. Then he called, apologized for forgetting about the procedure, and they would set it up as soon as they saw the new CT Scan. Looks like we might have some closure this time. The procedure is pretty cool. A small camera goes down your throat and into the lungs, and you are asleep. The camera finds the nodule and gets a biopsy. Then it goes back up, and that's done. I'm hoping for this to be over soon. I'll keep you posted. And don't worry. It's a very safe procedure. 😁😁

Spinning season!

I haven't posted in a while, I've had a bit of life and a bit of ennui get in the way. But I'm excited for [community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth and would like to post more.

This morning I set up my spinning nook and started spinning yarn on my wheel. I've been really looking forward to doing this because I find spinning a really soothing and enjoyable way to start the day. My nook is next to some large north-facing windows where sunlight will pour in later in the year when the sun gets lower. I'm a little early for those glorious mornings, but I figured if I'm so looking forward to spinning, why wait longer? The future is so very uncertain.

Here's my spinning setup.

My sister-in-law in New Mexico called to tell me she has intestinal canceř. More tests are coming before they discuss the treatment. But they did tell her it's bad. She's been going to see her regular doctor for two years, with pain and some other symptoms. Without doing any tests, the doctor told her she has IBS and to learn to live with the pain. She started fainting, and my brother Paul took her to the ER. They got her right in. Did some X-rays and blood work. She was so anemic, they were shocked she was walking around. They set up a colonoscopy for the following day. That's when they found the problem. It's a good-sized area, and they explained that there would be more tests before they could do surgery. I feel so bad for Josie. And her hubby, too. I hope they'll know something soon. Please keep them in your thoughts.

9.    It’s National Garlic Month – are you a fan? If so, what’s your favorite garlic recipe?

I love garlic, anything. If I find a recipe with garlic, I'm there. But my favorite is Alfredo and shrimp.

10.  Do you often see wild birds in your backyard/garden/nearby open spaces? What are the most common ones you see in your area?

The most common are quail, robins, sparrows, cardinals, pigeons, hawks, hummingbirds, and that's all I can think of.

11.  Have you ever flown a kite?

When I was doing it with my kids and grandkids. But now no.

12.  What’s your favorite breed of dog?

We had a mixed breed boxer/lab and she was the best dog. She was good sized and weighed about 110 pounds. She wasn't fat, either. I love labs. And I love boxers.

1. What did you learn about marriage and relationships from your parents? Who else have you learned about relationships from?

I learned what not to do by watching how my mother treated my dad so poorly. He was so in love with her and did everything she asked of him. We were all amazed that they never divorced. When we got older, we asked Dad why he stayed. He said, “You don't just give up on a marriage because it's hard. And besides, she’ll always be my best girl. Besides, she gave me my wonderful children.”

We decided that people in love sometimes do odd things. She still could have been nicer to him. They were married for 69 years.

The case of the missing notifications

I keep forgetting to post about this: we've been troubleshooting the "missing notifications" problem for the past few days. (Well, I say "we", really I mean Mark and Robby; I'm just the amanuensis.) It's been one of those annoying loops of "find a logical explanation for what could be causing the problem, fix that thing, observe that the problem gets better for some people but doesn't go away completely, go back to step one and start again", sigh.

Mark is hauling out the heavy debugging ordinance to try to find the root cause. Once he's done building all the extra logging tools he needs, he'll comment to this entry. After he does, if you find a comment that should have gone to your inbox and sent an email notification but didn't, leave him a link to the comment that should have sent the notification, as long as the comment itself was made after Mark says he's collecting them. (I'd wait and post this after he gets the debug code in but I need to go to sleep and he's not sure how long it will take!)

We're sorry about the hassle! Irregular/sporadic issues like this are really hard to troubleshoot because it's impossible to know if they're fixed or if they're just not happening while you're looking. With luck, this will give us enough information to figure out the root cause for real this time.

It's challenge time!

Comment with Just One Thing you've accomplished in the last 24 hours or so. It doesn't have to be a hard thing, or even a thing that you think is particularly awesome. Just a thing that you did.

Feel free to share more than one thing if you're feeling particularly accomplished!

Extra credit: find someone in the comments and give them props for what they achieved!

Nothing is too big, too small, too strange or too cryptic. And in case you'd rather do this in private, anonymous comments are screened. I will only unscreen if you ask me to.

howff [houf, ouf, hohf, ohf]

noun:

Examples:

It is a howff abundant in character but without renown and exists as a place for people to gather, wet their whistle, and have a blether. It is the perfect local. (Socialising in pubs 'boosts mens' mental health, The Scotsman, January 2014)

It has a romantic past, having been built in secret in 1952 by four climbers fed up with carrying the heavy tents of the day on the long walk into the Cairngorms. There's is a great tale of the building of this howff. (Who remembers this ? Howffs, Old mans thoughts and tales, July 2020)
